A police inquiry in Bugweri District, Uganda, delves into the mysterious death of a female suspect found hanging in custody, amidst other disturbing incidents including a father accused of murdering his daughter and a businessman fatally attacked by unknown assailants.

An ongoing police inquiry is in progress in Bugweri District following the mysterious demise of a 36-year-old female suspect discovered hanging in the female cell of Bugweri Central Police Station in Eastern Uganda earlier today.

Diana Nandawula, the spokesperson for Busoga East Police, has identified the deceased as Sarah Mudondo, a resident of Kibuye ‘A’ village, Bulidah sub-county, Bugiri District.

Mudondo was apprehended from Busembatya town council in Bugweri District on suspicions of rice theft and subsequently transferred to Bugweri Central Police Station, where she purportedly utilized a piece of cloth to end her life by hanging.

“We have initiated investigations into the death of Sarah Mudondo, who reportedly used a piece of cloth to hang herself within the confines of Bugweri Police Station; the hanging has been confirmed, but inquiries are ongoing,” stated Ms. Nandawula. She also mentioned that instances of suspects hanging themselves while in police custody are infrequent.

In a separate incident, Ms. Nandawula disclosed that the police are pursuing a 24-year-old man accused of murdering his one-year-old twin daughter “due to his aversion to female children”. The suspect hails from Mawanga village in Malongo sub-county.

Reports from the village suggest that the suspect allegedly administered hot tea to the daughter before strangling her to death.

Meanwhile, residents of Butende village, Ibulanku sub-county, Bugweri District, stumbled upon the body of an unidentified man by the roadside, with Mr. Mawazi Mwanja, the local LC1 chairman, speculating that he was assaulted and abandoned there.

In another related incident, a businessman fell victim to a fatal hacking by unidentified assailants.

James Mugweri, a resident of Mulari-Bukose village in Kaguru sub-county, was fatally stabbed on Thursday night by individuals posing as customers, according to Kaguru sub-county speaker, Mr. Joseph Mpango. Mr. Mpango added that the victim succumbed to his injuries at his residence.
