Ineos’s Ratcliffe shakes up Manchester United’s game plan, preferring to hunt for the next big star rather than splash cash, while midfielder Christian Eriksen grapples with game time.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the CEO at Ineos, has got some thoughts about Manchester United. He’s not about to splash the cash on big-name signings like Jude Bellingham or Kylian Mbappé. Nope, that’s not his game plan.
He’s been chatting on a cycling podcast and when asked about signing Bellingham, he shrugged it off, saying, “They have done that, if you look at the last 10 years, they have spent a lot of money on a couple of great players. The first thing we need to do is get the right people in the right boxes who are managing and organising the club. And make sure we get recruitment right, it is such a vital part of football today.”
Then, they threw him a curveball, asking if he’d rather sign Mbappé for United or a top cyclist for his Ineos team. And he came back with a cheeky response saying he would prefer to discover the next Mbappé, emphasizing that purchasing success was too simplistic. He expressed readiness to take on the challenge of identifying the next rising star.
He’s also been eyeing Arsenal and their patience with Mikel Arteta. When asked about who might win the league, he joked about hating all the top contenders but gave props to Arsenal for sticking with Arteta through thick and thin.
And he’s got grand ideas for United’s stadium too. Forget sprucing up Old Trafford, he’s thinking big—a shiny new stadium with a capacity that could reach up to 100,000.
Meanwhile, Christian Eriksen, the midfielder at United, isn’t too thrilled about his game time. He’s had a chat with the boss, Erik, expressing his unhappiness, but knows he’s got to stay ready and respect the competition for spots in the team.
