Israel’s Aid Restrictions Persist in Gaza Crisis

1 min read

According to the United Nations, Israeli authorities have only permitted less than half of the planned aid missions into northern Gaza this March. Out of the 24 missions scheduled, only 11 have been allowed through, while the rest have either been denied or postponed.

Farhan Haq, the deputy spokesman for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, highlighted the challenges faced by aid convoys attempting to enter Gaza. He mentioned that convoys often encounter long waits at the Gaza checkpoint and are sometimes turned back. Additionally, there’s a risk of aid being taken by desperate individuals either at the checkpoint or along the difficult route north.

Haq emphasized the importance of ensuring reliable aid delivery by the Israeli military. He called for safe, sustained, and unhindered aid across Gaza, urging the opening of all possible entry points into the region. This, he stated, is crucial to prevent aid from falling into the wrong hands and to ensure that those in need receive the necessary assistance.
