The blast occurred at Rameshwaram Cafe in eastern Bengaluru around 1 pm on Friday, just as office crowds were lining up for lunch.

Siddaramaiah, the chief minister of Karnataka state, wrote on X social media platform that a “small improvised explosive device” caused panic at the busy eatery.

Preliminary investigations suggest the explosive was hidden in a bag left by a breakfast customer at the cafe, Siddaramaiah said, promising “strict action against the culprits.”

Divya Raghavendra Rao, co-founder of the cafe chain, recounted there were two explosions within 10 seconds, near the handwashing area.

State Home Minister G Parameshwara assured reporters that all injured were hospitalized and none in life-threatening condition.

Mobile camera videos showed smoke in the restaurant, with injured individuals being assisted by staff, and a damaged pillar inside the cafe.

The cafe’s CCTV footage was handed over to police as investigations into the cause of the blast continued.
