Mikel Arteta remains unapologetic about his exuberant displays of joy, affirming his commitment to celebrating victories with Arsenal. Despite facing criticism for his enthusiastic reaction to Arsenal’s 3-1 triumph over Premier League leaders Liverpool, Arteta insists he won’t stifle his emotions.
The Arsenal manager’s spirited sprint down the touchline upon his team’s goals, followed by triumphant fist pumps to the fans at the game’s conclusion, drew attention and divided opinions. Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville remarked on what he perceived as “a little bit of immaturity” in Arsenal’s jubilant celebrations.
Arteta, however, brushed off the criticism, expressing his genuine affection for such displays. “Personally, I love it,” he asserted, highlighting the passion and authenticity such moments inject into the game.
In response to suggestions that such celebrations might be excessive, Arteta remained resolute. He pointed out instances of other managers, even at the Emirates, who have similarly displayed their emotions in dramatic fashion. Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard echoed Arteta’s sentiment, defending the team’s right to revel in their victory.
The Arsenal boss acknowledges that opinions may differ on the matter but remains steadfast in his belief that genuine displays of emotion only enhance the sport.
