UEFA has decided against suspending Israel from international competitions despite calls from 12 Middle Eastern countries to do so amid the conflict with Palestine. Theodore Theodoridis, the General Secretary of UEFA, made it clear that the organization has no plans to impose such a ban.
“There has been no discussion within UEFA administration regarding the suspension of Israel,” Theodoridis affirmed.
While addressing concerns about Russia’s involvement in the war in Ukraine and its potential suspension from UEFA competitions, Theodoridis emphasized the distinction between the situations of the two countries.
“These are two completely different situations of two countries,” noted journalist Rob Harris, quoting Theodoridis.
It is important to recall that Russian football clubs and national teams have already faced bans from UEFA competitions since February 2022 due to the conflict in Ukraine.
Furthermore, UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin has announced that he will not seek a third term in the 2027 presidential election.
