Amid growing demands for change in how things are run in the occupied Palestinian territories, Mohammed Mustafa steps into the spotlight as the new leader. His mission: to bring relief and reconstruction to the Gaza Strip while also shaking up the Palestinian Authority’s way of doing things in the occupied West Bank.
According to WAFA news agency, Mustafa’s got quite the to-do list. He’s taking over from Mohammed Shttayah, who, along with his crew, stepped down back in February.
The Palestinian Authority, mainly controlled by the Fatah political party, used to be in charge of Gaza until 2007. That’s when Hamas took over after winning elections the year before. Since then, Hamas has been calling the shots in Gaza, while the Palestinian Authority’s been running things in parts of the occupied West Bank.
