Taylor Swift rallies her 282 million Instagram followers to vote in the presidential primary, emphasizing the importance of choosing representatives who align with their values, as she continues to use her platform for civic engagement.
In her post, Swift highlighted the significance of March 5th, marking the Presidential primary in Tennessee and 16 other states and territories, including her home state. She emphasized the importance of voting for representatives who truly reflect the interests of the people. Swift urged her followers to make a plan to vote, providing resources such as vote.org to help locate polling places and check voting times.
This isn’t the first time Swift has advocated for voter participation. In the 2020 election, she encouraged young voters to engage in early voting and endorsed President Joe Biden. She emphasized the need for a president who prioritizes the safety and representation of people of color, women’s rights, LGBTQIA+ rights, and global health issues.
While Swift has not yet endorsed a candidate for the 2024 presidential election, she made waves in 2018 by openly endorsing Tennessee Democrats Phil Bredesen and Jim Cooper for Senate and House of Representatives, respectively. Swift, who had previously avoided discussing politics, explained that recent events had changed her perspective, prompting her to speak out in support of candidates who champion human rights.
Despite mixed outcomes in the elections she endorsed, Swift remains committed to using her platform to encourage civic engagement and advocate for causes she believes in.
